New Booking system for Devizes HRC from 14th September
Wiltshire Council is reminding residents that a booking system pilot will be introduced at six of its Household Recycling Centres (HRCs) this September
Wiltshire Council has seen increasing demand at its HRCs which has caused operational challenges across the network. The booking system pilot is being introduced to see if this can help reduce queuing, improve customer experience and operational efficiency and minimise disruption for nearby communities and businesses.
From Tuesday 8 September, residents will be able to book a visit online ahead of the launch of the appointment-only system on Monday 14 September at the following sites:
Devizes
Lower Compton (near Calne)
Melksham
Purton
Salisbury
Stanton St Quintin (Chippenham)
As part of the pilot, residents will initially be able to book a 30-minute slot up to one week in advance, with some same-day appointments also available. Slot lengths and site capacity will be regularly reviewed throughout the pilot to ensure the service meets demand while maintaining efficient site operations.

Wiltshire Connect Timetable changes from 1st September
There are timetable changes taking place on the 1st September to some timetabled Wiltshire Connect services. The main changes are:
100 Devizes-Marlborough: Minor timetable changes
101 Pewsey-Devizes: The 16.15 from Devizes to Pewsey will leave 30 minutes later at 16.45 on Mon-Fri.
110/120 Marlborough-Hungerford-Great Bedwyn-Marlborough: Most journeys will operate 10 minutes later and the 12.10pm from Marlborough will call at Great Bedwyn first thus providing a more direct return journey from Marlborough. Due to very low usage, Ham will become a pre-bookable stop on the route.

Forthcoming Road Closures
Wessex Water have identified some sections of sewer in need of repair in Woodborough as they look to prevent the infiltration of groundwater into the network. Details about the process can be found here
Relining and sealing sewers in this way helps protect the environment, preventing groundwater entering sewers, which can lead to flooding or storm overflows automatically discharging into rivers or the sea if the system becomes overwhelmed. It also helps prevent foul water escaping.
Tuesday 1 – Saturday 5 September 2026 - The public right of way WOOD9 from Silverton/Church Lane (across the paddock, down past Merrilands and in between St Cross and the Manor House) to Woodborough Road will be closed. Pedestrians should use the path down past the Parish Room instead.
Monday 28 September - Friday 2 October 2026 - Church Road will be closed and there may be occasions when access for residents on the church side of the work will be restricted, but please speak to the on-site team who will be able to advise and assist on arrangements to enter or exit the road.
Other local closures are:
21st September-2nd October - the C38 from the Alton crossroads to Lockeridge will be closed for Openreach works.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Network Priority Register
Anybody with children under the age of 5, or anybody over the age of 60, or anybody with electricity-dependent vulnerabilities can apply to be added to the SSEN Priority Register for extra, immediate support in the event of a power cut. The application form is available here.
